What is market research for exactly? It is mainly for those who run businesses.  There are many ways of discovering just what a customer is looking for in any specific type of business.  Business owners can see these answers in different forms such as surveys, product research, advertising focus groups, risk analysis, and competitor analysis.  There are many focuses of each product study such as age, income level, location, and gender.  There are several other factors that can be included also.

What is market research and marketing? Many people tend to confuse market research with marketing, but they are two separate things.  Marketing involves how to sell products or services to the public; while, market research has to do with studying data and the public to learn how to sell a product or service.  In fact most of what consists of market research is what marketing experts use to sell their products.

What is market research capable of telling about a business? A lot actually.  There is so much information that can be learned simply by knowing the most common shopping habits of different demographics.  Not to mention a new business can learn a lot from other companies in their same line of work by studying where the business is located, how it is ran, who is the most common shopper in the area, and how much they were charging.  Not to mention they can study the company’s habits about providing a genuine service to the public.  Whether that service is tangible or simply by being available to answer questions the customer might have.

What is market research capable of knowing about individual customers? Just about everything.  Market research has no limits.  It studies everything.  The real question is, what is the business owner actually learning about its customers?  Everyone has different shopping habits.  Different types of stores attract different genres of individuals.  These people may be nit-picky shoppers who have to weigh every purchase carefully, or they may be inspired to by on the whim based merely on a particular color the product has.  By studying market research a business owner has their biggest asset to date:  an inside look at their customers’ minds.

What is market research doing to help on financial statuses? Again, surprisingly a lot.  Market research has helped companies relocate money that was being put to waste in the past.  Many companies spend more of their money on marketing than on any other department even on the product, and in more cases than half, the money is being put to waste because it is not focusing on the right message or the right people.  Market research can tell companies who they need to push their product to more or who needs more convincing that their product is going to be a winner.

Market research should be an essential part of all companies, in particular the little guy.  They should get a heads up on what is market research for before they even open their doors in most cases.  This should be a general concept in building a business plan because the individual or group of people already knows what they are up against once they have received the data from market research.  Without doing any homework on this data, a company is merely setting itself up to fall flat because they are not taking in to consideration the most important part of their business, the customer.
